Ernesto was born as Tropical Disturbance #5 on August 24. For several days he appeared to be aimed at the gulf coast, possibly even New Orleans. Slowly the shifting winds pushed him east and up the coast of Florida. By 1700 on August 30, with all schools south of Flagler County closed, Ernesto fizzled out. With a light mist in Jacksonville most of the day, rain started about 2115 the evening of the 30th and Jacksonville dodged another one. Ernesto sure helped our Labor Day vacation. | ||||||
