March 11-14, 2007
Tom participated in the Quality Assurance Review (QAR) Team to grant district accreditation to the Talladega County School District of Alabama.
Sun, Mar 11, 2007, the team assembled at the Holiday Inn Express at Sylacauga, Alabama. The only one flying, Tom was driven from the Birmingham airport.

Mon, Mar 12, 2007, the team interviewed the superintendent, senior staff, board members, non-visited principals and stakeholders.

Tue, Mar 13, 2007, Tom and Dr. Jeanette Hedrick visited Sycamore Elementary and Winterboro High. The district is currently discussing a redesign plan that would merge the two schools.

Sycamore Elementary School

Sycamore Elementary was originally built as a high school but converted to a K-4 building.

The district and school's mission and vision are evident. Olivia and Selena were our 4th grade guides.

Winterboro High School

With grades 5-12, it is a most pronounced architectural marvel with a stone facade carted from the quarry with buckboards.

A distance learning lab ties students in all high schools with a teacher in one. The senior patio shows some of the beautiful stonework.
Wed, Mar 14, 2007:  In the morning, additional interviews were conducted with district personnel. Final reports were written and an oral report was made to the Superintendent and to the board. Flights home followed.
The Bradford pear is in full bloom and is beautiful.
