A Weekend in Wyomissing |
We drove north for a weekend in Wyomissing to visit Kate and Sal and our grandson-to-be. |

We left the house around 1130, with a full load of "stuff" and gassed up the car. We then drove back to the house to get the forgotten camera. We stopped in Milford, DE, for a burger. The EZPass mounted under the rearview mirror seemed to work well, but we'll check the website to see if it did. Outside Wilmington, the traffic going from DE1 to I-95 was backed up and moving very slowly. We followed the advice of Ilea (the GPS Navigator) and left I-95 to turn northwest. BIG MISTAKE! First Ilea routed us through an unsavory section of Wilmington toward US 202. No, wait, that's Delaware 202. When we got onto US 202, it was 1500 yards---stop light---1500 yards---stop light... You get the picture. Now 2 minutes waiting for a stop light is not a long time. Once you hit about 60 of those, those 2 minutes stretch into 2 hours of sitting at stop lights. We've got to find a better way. |
We arrived at Santo and Ann's about 1630, almost and hour and a half later than anticipated. Kate joined us 15 minutes later and Sal just a few minutes after that. Kate is not as big as I anticipated for her last month of pregnancy. (No, there will be no revealing pictures.)
Her last day of work will be 9/10 until late December. Though we have taken to calling the as-yet unamed grandson "9" (9th month), we learned that Santo and Ann have been using "Jello," as in "Jello Ferrarello." Ann served a marvelous pasta and shrimp dinner enhanced by veggies from her
own gardens. This was topped by a rhubarb pie! |
Following dinner, we followed K&S back to their house. Jack, their rescue greyhound, was ecstatic to see us and bounded all over the house. Somehow, in his
exuberance, he must have stepped on something, because he started bleeding from a pad in his left rear foot. Kate was able to stop the bleeding, but he'll probably have to go to the vet tomorrow. |
