We Got Snow

We got about 4" of snow.
It started last night at 2130 with the "hiss" of sleet, changing quickly to snow, which ended about 1100 this morning.
Schools are closed as is just about everything else, as well.
Lyd spent two nights with Margaret on Sunday and Monday to avoid early morning road travel.

At 2130, Sunday, the "hiss" of sleet is audible. |

Monday morning had a blanket of white.

Tuesday morning was an adventure.
Though we hunkered down on Monday, the following day it was necessary to venture out to do Margaret's marketing.
After frightening a little bunny hiding under the car, and using the brush and scraper, I removed the top 6" layer of snow and attempted to remove the thin layer of ice underneath, on the car.
The snow was easy to remove, but the ice was not.
I freed the windshield wipers from their icy lockdown, but they skittered over the dappled ice layer on the glass and wouldn't dislodge it.
I secured a 2 liter bottle of water from the kitchen and poured it on the windshield.
Now, I knew the ambient temperature was below freezing, so it was obvious the water would not maintain a liquid state for very long.
As soon as the water was poured on the windshield (I had previously started the engine), I activated the wipers.
They took off the briefly-melted ice and produced a clean front window, which quickly froze in a clear state.
With rafts of snow riding each fender, fore and aft, I was able to maneuver the car to the market.
I have observed that some neighbors flip their wipers 90o to avoid them adhering to the glass.
Others place blankets on the front and rear windows to allow the accumulated snow to be flipped off.
We'll try this in the future.
I spent the forced indoor time searching for snow blowers.
Lyd is not convinced we need one.
Time (and future storms) will tell.
By the weekend, warmer temperatures obliterated all remaining remnants of the winter blanket.
