Zia's Italian Grill
1/28/2010
We chose Zia's Italian Grill for dinner. It will be some time before we go again!
To be fair, the service was excellent. Tasha was our server and she gets an A+ for her efforts.
Not much else rated that well.
Margaret ordered a Dewar's and Soda, (7). The 1st effort was NOT scotch, but something decidedly minty. We sent it back. The 2nd try was scotch, but with water, not soda. Strike 1.
Tom ordered a Maker's Mark Manhattan. Imagine a bar that doesn't carry Maker's Mark! Tom settled for a house brand, (4), but what came was watery, weak and really poor. Strike 2!
Lydia, the wise, ordered Merlot (5). Tom joined her after his weak Manhattan was gone.
The family style Garden Salad Bowl wasn't bad. The one served at Olive Garden is better. Tom did find the breadsticks to be excellent and superior to those at OG.
Margaret tried their Cream of Crab Soup (5.95), but didn't think much of it.
Margaret chose the Homemade Lasagna (11.95), of layers of pasta, ricotta, provolone and mozzarella topped with a meat sauce and then baked in a casserole. She was not impressed.
Lyd selected the Stuffed Shells (10.95), of shells stuffed with cheese and topped with a marinara sauce. She, also, was not impressed. Lyd and Margaret tasted each other's entrees and said they both tasted the same. They both abandoned significant leftovers.
Tom selected the Veal Picatta, (16.95), (a single piece) of veal scaloppini, sautéed in lemon, butter, parsley and a dry white wine, served with sautéed mushrooms. It was excellent, what there was of it; clean plate.
Zia's would be OK if it were the only game in town. Alas, for Italian cuisine, there are better places.
