Sandy was born as Tropical Depression 18 over the southwestern Caribbean Sea on Monday, 22 October and started north.
By Wednesday afternoon, she'd achieved hurricane strength, headed for Jamaica and Eastern Cuba.
Thursday morning, the 25th, cleared from Cuba, she'd reached Category 2.
Later that day, models suggested she'd hit the American Coast early the following week.
Preparations began for Sandy's eventual landfall in Southern New Jersey on Monday the 29th.
Sandy smashed numerous communities on the Jersey Shore and devastated Staten Island.
Power was off in lower Manhattan and the transit system was shut down for days.
Sandy was felt all the way to the Great Lakes.
