Tom is participating in the Mayor Making of Mayor Elect Penny Brown in Salisbury, England, UK.
|
At 0652, it’s 38 in Salisbury.
Following breakfast, I walked up to the Guildhall and had a visit with Reg Williams, clerk of the City Council.
With his assistance, I purchased my rail/bus ticket for my return to Heathrow.
I then walked towards the cathedral to do a little shopping.
I returned to the hotel and found a message cancelling the lunch invitation due to the strained back of Terence Parker.
I called Mary and she dropped by and we had a short chat before she returned to the chiropractor and her husband.
I presented her with a bottle of Maryland Riesling.
A short time later, Mary called from the lobby and she and Terence, who was feeling much better, asked me to lunch here in the hotel, which I accepted.
He and I each had a beer and Mary had a diet coke.
She had a wrap sandwich of shredded duck and Terence and I each had large roast beef and horseradish sandwiches.
After a short nap, I walked up to the Guildhall area and to 1 Minister Street, The Haunch of Venison.
Whereas I was, as usual, early, the barman allowed me to sample a few of the brews he had on tap.
I chose English Ale, brewed locally.
Dinner was hosted by Mayor Elect Penny Brown and her husband Derek.
Also attending were Henry and Karen Alexander, from Salisbury, North Carolina, and
John and Sue Smale.
Penny chose the Crackled pork belly with cider mustard sauce, spring onion mash and seasonal vegetables (£16.95).
I chose the same, and it was excellent.
I showed restraint and passed on dessert, but Penny and Derek split the bread and butter pudding with ginger and lemon ice cream (£8.50).
Penny is collecting us at 1000 Friday morning to show us some of the sights.
