At 0600, it’s 48 with drizzle. I’ve been in England almost a week and finally got a little rain. After breakfast I packed and checked out of the White Hart. The cab came, as requested, at 0840. Following a £5.20 car ride, I arrived at the Salisbury Railway Station. I got some advice from a uniformed attendant and went to platform 2. Moments later, a two-carriage train arrived. I questioned the driver and learned this was a portion of the 0921 train and I should board and stow my luggage. A few more folks boarded, and (I learned later) several carriages were added to the end of the train. We departed promptly at 0921, and made stops at Andover and Basingstoke before arriving at Woking. I took my bags outside and quickly found the bus going to Terminal 5. We arrived at Terminal 5 at 1100. I spent the next 40 minutes wandering around the arrival area looking for the folks who were to transport me to The Landmark London Hotel. I sought help from a variety of folks. I had the wrong code for calling the Disney Emergency line on my phone, so I used a pay phone and credit card to call Orlando. The Help Desk was unable to contact the guides, and I was advised to take a cab and keep the receipt. The ride was £85 including a 10% charge for using a credit card. I checked in to the luxurious Landmark London in room 340. I had a nice first meeting with Adam and Caroline, our guides. They gave me introductory information. We’ll meet again at 1730. Marylebone market and tube station is across the street. The uniformed doorman directed me to an ATM and I also visited with a ticket agent and learned how to use the Oyster Card on the underground. I purchased a Spenser and Marks Diet cola and a few snacks, stood in the queue for checkout and returned to the room. At 1730, we all met in the lobby and Adam and Caroline, our guides, took us to a reception and dinner. They introduced themselves and we went around the room and introduced ourselves and then had a nice English dinner. There are a lot of nice people and it’s going to be fun. I started talking about Dropbox as a way to share pictures. | |||||||||||||||
