The 19th
Panasonic
Academic Challenge, Tom's 9th, is at the Contemporary Resort at Walt
Disney World. This annual event is a competition among states and
territories of the United States giving us yet another opportunity to enjoy the
fine WDW cuisine. |

The semi-final rounds were held in three rooms and the top
2 teams
in each room advanced to the finals. I read questions in one of
the rooms. In the afternoon, the National Championship was held. I
was
the announcer and the electronic scorekeeper. Maryland won with Florida
second and Missouri 3rd.

We took a couple of busses and made our way to the Animal
Kingdom Lodge to Jiko for dinner. Anette was busy with a large dinner
party and Brett welcomed us. She later joined us.

We started with a pair of
cocktails. Lyd had a Tanqueray martini ($8) and
I had a Manhattan ($7.25) |
We chose the left side of
the "Cooking Place" ($20) and enjoyed samples of:
Duck and Pork Firecracker crisp "Spring" rolls with
Hoisin sauce and jicama-apple slaw, Lamb "Patis"
pulled lamb rolled in Phyllo with Mint-Cilantro Chutney,
Lentil "Pastilla" lentil-filled phyllo pockets with
sweet-and-sour sauce, Maize and Sweet Potato "Tamales"
Herbed maize pudding and truffled sweet potato mash with
shredded goat cheese in corn husk boat. |

We shared the Cucumber, Tomato and Red
Onion Salad with Organic Arugula, Cottage cheese, and
watermelon vinaigrette ($8) |
Lucius brought us a sorbet
to "cleanse the pallet" between courses |

Tonight we actually went down to the
end of the hall and watched the fireworks and then, from the room,
watched the boat parade on this, our last night. |
