June 2006

June has been a busy month. The 2005-2006 school year has ended. Lyd has completed her 31st year in education, 28th in Science; 24th in Gifted and 15th at James Weldon Johnson. Tom has completed 32 in Education, 12 in Research and 17 hosting Brain Brawl.
Lyd repainted the master bedroom and the bedroom furniture. more
Crab Picking: On June 3, we picked crabs, a Maryland Eastern Shore Tradition. We've done this before. more
First, you go to Atlantic Coast Seafood and pick up the crabs from Murphy and Laurie, the mother-daughter experts of the fruits of the sea.

Next, we need the main ingredients

Into the pot they go! Tom's touch is masterful.

The setup and consumption is lots of fun. When we're finished, our drink glasses have a crust of Old Bay.

This mess is headed for a dumpster first thing in the morning. Whew!

Biking: June 4th marked the second tour of the biker chick. Riding on the back of Michael O'Brien's Harley, with John Tucker in the lead, they amassed 70 miles from Jacksonville to Fernandina Beach (lunch) and back in a five-hour jaunt.
Mike and Marilyn have a "bird." His name is Spock and he removes the fingers of the unwary.  I try to be wary! Michael wants to reproduce the art work on the top of the gas tank on the right side as well. Lyd gets her chin strap adjusted

The wild bunch is ready to ride!

The 19th Panasonic Academic Challenge, Tom's 9th, was at the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World. This annual event is a competition among states and territories of the United States giving us yet another opportunity to enjoy the fine WDW cuisine.  more
On the 16th, Lyd flew to Pennsylvania. more While Lyd was in Maryland, Tom had sushi from Chun King.
June 15, 1946 was more than Tom's date of birth. It was also the wedding day of Fred and Camille Berley.  They celebrated their 60th anniversary and Tom was honored with an invitation to attend!
