Independence Day 2011
07/03-05/2011
We drove up for Independence Day in Wyomissing. Kate wants us to come Sunday, so we'd planned to put Buddy in the kennel Saturday afternoon to get an early start on Sunday morning. The parade is Monday morning, so we'll come back on Tuesday.
Sunday morning, it rained in the hour before we got up, at 6. We had Buddy at the kennel and were on the road at 0810. Following a brief stop at McDonalds in Harrington, we pulled into the kid’s house at 1135. Following a lunch of cold cut sandwiches, we all played with Nico. Following Nico's nap, Sal grilled salmon and zucchini. In the evening, we watched Mamma Mia, abbreviated to just the tunes, as Nico loves them. Monday, we slept until nearly 7. When Sal, Kate and Nico came down, Nico enjoyed watching videos on his grandmother’s iPad. We drove a few blocks closer to the downtown area where they had a nice small-town parade with a couple of small bands, lots of kids, and dogs and fire engines. The reason most people carried bags was explained when the riders of the majority of the cars and trucks threw candy to the crowd. Sal made a great bacon, sausage, and egg brunch, then mowed the swale while the rest of us napped. Kate made a pork and pasta dish and a nice salad. Tuesday, at 0619, it’s 64 in Wyomissing. We were on the road a little after 7 and picked up Buddy at 1030; home around 1100.
