Background
As is customary, I awoke 20 minutes before the 0600 alarm. We left the house at 0700 for the short ride to the Salisbury airport (SBY). Check-in and security were effortless and we boarded AA4860 on time. We taxied out and the pilot broke the bad news that ATC had hit us with a 15 minute delay. The flight to PHL, though delayed was also without incident and we were at the gate about 5 minutes late, requiring a brisk walk from the shuttle to gate B9, where our flight, AA4589, was already boarding. We left the gate on time at 0930, and, extraordinary for PHL, #1 for departure; wheels up at 0933. We touched down at 1030 in Portland Maine’s Airport (PWM). Randy, from the Holiday Inn By The Bay, brought the van and picked up a bunch of us for the ride into town, pointing out the sights along the way. Despite our early arrival, rooms were ready and we were in 1021, on the north side of the building. We went to the lobby to the Port of Call Lounge and had our first lobster of the trip, Lobster Rolls (15) with glasses of the local red and white wines (7.50). When we returned to the room, nap time took over. Around 1800, we went to the lobby to secure a ride to dinner. There were several of us, so the shuttle driver made two other stops before dropping us at The Back Bay Grill in a somewhat seedier part of Portland. After dinner, we were both down by 2125.
