in Wyomissing
2015
08/22/2015
We've been invited to Wyomissing for the weekend.
Friday: At 0630, it’s 74 and we’re headed for Wyomissing. We left about 0840 and gassed up on our way to Weeping Willow. We dropped off Buddy and left the kennel at about 0910. We picked up breakfast at the Chick-fil-a in north Salisbury and then headed north. Shortly after joining DE 1, north of Dover, we ran into the first traffic problem. Apparently there had been an accident in the northbound left lane just north of the first toll plaza. We never saw the accident, but lost a good 20-30 minutes creeping north. Traffic crawled again on I-95 into the merger with I-476 and continued bad until we reached I-76. Now, an hour delayed, we called SKDL to tell them of our delay. Just short of 1400, in downtown Wyomissing, we encountered blocked roads and had to call Kate to talk us into the house. We played with the boys in the afternoon and Sal grilled Salmon for dinner.

Saturday: At 0640. It's 57 and sunny. We both slept well. Sal broke out their new French Press coffee machine to Lyd's delight. The boys had an assortment of cereals for breakfast. I found, in my email, a list of links for birthday gifts for the boys. After breakfast, Kate and Sal proposed a visit to a local playground, but the boys vetoed the idea. It was nice enough to open up the house. We played a few games of Chutes and Ladders and then played a game of Sorry! Lunch was deli sandwiches. Following lunch, Leo and I took naps while Lyd and Kate went shopping for accents for their family room. Sal and Kate took the six of us to Coastal Grill for dinner. I started with a bowl of New England Clam Chowder (6.20) and we had two orders of the Flash Fried Calamari (10.30) with peppers and green beans and a sweet and sour Asian sauce. Kate ordered Grilled shrimp and strawberry salad (13.90 ) of mixed greens tossed in a strawberry balsamic vinaigrette with fresh strawberries, jicama, feta cheese, sweetened pecans & grilled shrimp. Sal ordered Seafood Medley Pasta (18.90) of Shrimp, Crab & Scallops in a garlic cream sauce over linguine. Lyd had Lobster Grilled Cheese (13.90) of Lobster, smoked mozzarella & cheddar cheese between buttered sourdough bread. I enjoyed Longfin Tilapia (15.90), pan-Asian style. The boys ordered from the kid's menu. At 1900, the boys went up and Sal and Kate spent time with them getting them ready for bed.

Sunday: At 0540, we were up and dressed and slipped out of the house by 0630 without awakening anyone. Following an uneventful trip, we picked up Buddy and were home by 1030.
