Though we had requested to sit at The Cooking Place, it had not been blocked, so, after about a 30 minute wait we were seated in The Wine Tasting Room.
Hassan, from Morocco, was our server.
I started with a Maker's Mark Manhattan (10.50) and Lyd had a Tanqueray Martini (9.75).
Hassan had us taste-test two different bottles of pinotage and we selected the Camberley (75).
This was followed by Taste of Africa (10), which we split.
Lyd ordered the Botswana-style Seswaa Beef Short Rib (48) with Cassava-Potato Puree, Sambal, and mushrooms.
I selected the West African Spiced Lamb Shank (50) with Goat cheese mashed potato, roasted baby vegetables, and apple cider glace.
We finished with a Capetown Coffee (10.25) of Van der Hum, Kahlua, and {decaf} coffee topped with whipped cream and
a Nutty African (10.75) of Amarula, Frangelico and {decaf} coffee topped with whipped cream.
We had a nice chat with David, the chef de cuisine, and thought we were finished. Nope!
Hassan produced a chocolate mousse and wouldn't let us leave without a pair of macaroons as well.
