Our eighth cruise with American Cruise Lines is down the Ohio River from Pittsburgh to St. Louis.

We were, at 1030, to have been transferred to the Queen of The Mississippi into Cabin 413, in Pittsburgh. We learned, on Saturday, the 14th, that the river is too high in Pittsburgh, so we will be bussed, at 0800. to Marietta, OH to board. We'll leave at 1330, headed down river, to arrive in Pt. Pleasant, WV at 2330.

At 0500, it’s 72 in Pittsburg. By 0545, as requested, our bags are ready for the bellman to take them to the bus. We departed the hotel at 0900, crossing briefly into West Virginia before entering Ohio. We pulled into Marietta, OH about 1130 and boarded the Queen of the Mississippi. I did an interview with a local TV station on the dock. A revised itinerary was in the cabin 413 when we arrived. We soon went down to lunch, where we both had the Crawfish Bisque with green onion and sour cream, and the Poached Atlantic Seafood Salad with crab, shrimp, scallops, mixed greens, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese crisp. Dessert was a chocolate zucchini cake. After lunch, I went on to the orientation meeting while Lew took a nap. We then looked at the proposed tours and made our selections. From 1625, to 1700 a lock dropped us 26 feet at the Bellville Lock. At 1730, cocktails were served in the Magnolia Lounge, Deck 2 forward. From there, it was on to dinner. We each had the Cajun-Spiced Jumbo Sea Scallop with Creole grits, Andouille Sausage and Spinach Cream. Lew picked the Bleu-Cheese Herb-Crusted Mignonette of Beef with Jumbo Lump Crab Bread Pudding, Asparagus and brown butter Bernaise and I had the Seared Mahi-Mahi with shrimp dirty rice, braised okra, pickled peppers and Creole Butter Sauce. After dinner, we went through the Racine Lock, dropping us, again, and at 2139, it’s 77. We docked in Pt. Pleasant, WV around 2330.
