The Plan: We're schedule to arrive at Midland, ON, on Georgian Bay and remain all day, departing at 0800, Saturday, for Sault Sainte Marie, ON, up Georgian Bay to the shores of Lake Superior, arriving at 0800, Sunday. Tom had planned on taking the Cruising Midland Harbor & 30,000 Islands Tour. Lydia had planned on the Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons Exploration.
At 0715, it’s 71o in Georgian Bay, an hour out of Midland, ON. Lyd skipped breakfast, but I had corned beef hash, fruit, English muffins, juices and tea. When we returned to the room, and most of the passengers had gone ashore, the crew had a series of emergency drills. We decided on July 28 aboard American Glory and Maine Coast and Harbors Cruise for our next cruise aboard ACL. Lunch was one of the best we have had so far on this cruise, with both of us choosing the same thing. We started with the Prosciutto-Spinach Feta Roulade in Filo Pastry with Roasted Yellow Pepper Coulis, followed by Grilled Portobello Mushrooms marinated in Balsamic & Olive Oils. From there we moved on to the French Acadian Split Pea with ham soup. We both finished with a Classic Seafood Stew of mussels, clams, fresh fish and shrimp simmered in lobster broth. We return to our stateroom for naps. Kate texted looking for doggie treats and to report the leak in our garage ceiling has worsened in the recent heavy rains. Gus will meet her at the house to review the problem. Dinner was less satisfying then was lunch. We each started with the Cream of Tomato-basil soup which was pretty good. I moved on to the grilled swordfish which reminded me why we no longer made swordfish. Lyd had the Herb Roasted Cornish Hen with Orange Glazed Carrots & sauteed haricort vert and Rosemary pan gravy, which I finished. Dinner was saved with Banana Foster with Vanilla Ice Cream for Lyd, and Chocolate Fudge Torte for me. The Captain came on the PA to inform us of a change in sailing plans. Rather than leaving Midland tomorrow morning, he has decided to leave at 2230 tonight to try and avoid some heavy weather tomorrow on Georgian Bay, though he did warn we will have some heavy seas. We returned to the room and watched a little TV. At 2130, it’s 66o.
