Date Nut Bars
This is a change from the recipe made in December, 2013.
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
10 oz chopped dates
2 cups chopped walnuts
4 eggs lightly beaten
2 Tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
Procedures:
Stir together the first 6 ingredients.
Add the eggs, butter and vanilla and stir until just mixed. Batter will be stiff.
Spread into greased 15" x 10" x 1" baking pan.
Bake at 350o for 50 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. Cut into squares. To serve sprinkle liberally with 10X sugar.
Notes:
2023-12-18: Made for Christmas and cooked for 50 minutes
2023-11-23: A batch for Ann's Thanksgiving Dinner in Exeter, baked 40 minutes.
2022-12-22: A batch made for Christmas.
2021-12-16: Too thick, they were “floury” in the middle and required more time. The pan we used was too small; resulting in bars that were too thick
