Fry Day
Normally done on a Friday! Choose vegetables that are in season.
Ingredients:
Peanut Oil
Tempura Batter Mix AND/OR
Beer Batter Mix
Shrimp
green/yellow squash
butternut squash
sweet onion, sliced into rings.
sweet potato
Asparagus
Procedures:
Heat the peanut oil in a large Dutch oven or wok to 350o.
Fry the veggies not coated in batter first, salting when they come out of the oil.
Notes:
2023-06-09: Shrimp, green squash,sweet potato, red potato and 12 shrimp. The shrimp was done in dry crumbs, the onions in wet batter and the other veggies in no batter. The Vidalia was best, followed by the potatoes.
2022-05-06: shrimp, onion rings; squash
2021-08-13: eggplant, shrimp, onion rings, squash
2020-12-23: shrimp, mussels, ravioli, zucchini and onions rings in peanut oil. The ravioli and mussels didn’t work, but the rest was great.
2020-06-05: probably the best onion rings ever, from a Visalia onion, with asparagus spears, yellow squash rings and 3/4 of a pound of shrimp. Accompanied by a bottle CSM Riesling.
