Patty Melt
An alternative to the common hamburger.
Ingredients:
3 Tablespoons Butter
4 slices Rye Bread
1 lb. ground round shaped into square patties, 1/4" thick
1 Tablespoon EVOO
1 Tablespoon Yellow Mustard, divided
1 Teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/2 Teaspoon Worcestershire
1 garlic clove
1 medium onion, sliced into thin rings
4 slices swiss cheese
Procedures:
Melt butter over flat top griddle or large cast-iron skillet.
Add onions, garlic and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Cover and cook, until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Uncover and cook until golden brown, 15-20 minutes, adding water as needed.
Remove from skillet to bowl, add vinegar and Worcestershire, and set aside
Season and grill burgers on flat top to medium-rare, 3-5 minutes. Remove
Spread mustard on each side of the bread slices, top one with cheese, patty, onions, cheese, and the other bread slice
Cook in hot butter, weighted down, until golden brown and cheese is melted, about 2 minutes per side.

2025-02-14: recipe modified
2023-11-19: Using 2 sirloin burgers, Lyd had hers on white bread while mine was on rye. Both were topped with yellow American cheese.
2020-05-11: Two Bubba Burgers, with sautéed red onion. One served on white bread, the other on rye, with pickle chunks and chips.
2018-10-21: a pound of ground beef was divided into 4 burgers and pan-fried with rye bread.
2017-08-19: served with potato salad and fresh corn on the cob.
