Rice, Microwaved
Ingredients:
1 cups long grain rice
1 3/4 cups water
3/4 teaspoon oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
~ OR ~ 2 cups long grain rice
3 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 teaspoons oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Procedures:
Experiment: 10@100%; 10@50% covered
Place all ingredients in a large glass measuring or any microwave safe bowl.
Note: the rice expands during cooking, so be sure to choose a container that is large enough.
Microwave on high, uncovered, for 10 minutes.
Microwave on medium-low, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
If pineapple juice is being utilized, reduce the cooking time
Do not stir the rice at any time during the cooking process. Season with salt and fluff with a fork just before serving.
Notes: [Replace some, or all, of the water with Orange Juice to make Orange Rice.]
2020-05-20: To go under Chicken Marengo. 10 minutes at 10 power; 10 minutes at 50% power was overcooked. Next time I’ll try it covered. 2020-04-25: served under shrimp scampi the rice was again overcooked. The timing and or power settings need to be reduced.
2020-02-22: A side with Peachy pork picante, it was overcooked. The reduced power cycle will be reduced.
2019-10-23: Made with pineapple juice to be pineapple rice, and just as bad as last time. It was trashed untasted, on sight.
2018-11-17: a single batch was made for fried rice, but was hard by the time it was used.
