Home Tom, Lyd, Sal, Kate and Nico
October, 2010 at Disney World
Sun, Oct 3 through Fri, Oct 8

<<<Mon, Oct 4th>>>
Lyd and I were both up around 0630. We all left the room about 0845, boarded the monorail and hit the Magic Kingdom entrance about 0930. We went straight up to the railroad and boarded the Walter E. Disney. When the train stopped at Frontier Land, they announced that it would not stop at Mickey’s Toontown as it didn’t open until 1000. We walked around Frontier Land and into Adventure Land. He played with the Tiki Gods who spit water. Kate, Sal and Nico went up in the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. We walked through the hub and spent some time watching the live show on the castle forecourt before walking over to Mickey’s Toontown. We walked through Minnie’s house and then went back to Tomorrow Land for lunch at the Starlight Café which was mostly burgers. We walked back to Toontown to try and meet Mickey, but the lines were prohibitive. We took the train from Toontown back to Main Street and then took the monorail back to the room. We all went down for naps, with Nico’s being 2 ½ hours.

<<< California Grill >>>
After naps, it was up to the California Grill where Bridget Sherren, Area Manager, was expecting us. Bridget was off tonight, as was Gary, Yoshie and Chef Brian. Ryan was our server, and we have had him before and he remembered us and brought the menus. Sous Chef Jason Kohl stopped by to visit. He’s from Reading and he and Sal exchanged notes and memories. Lyd started with a Skye Vodka Martini (7.50), and I had the first of two Maker’s Mark Manhattans (9.25). Sal enjoyed a Blue Moon Wheat Ale (5.75) and Kate had a glass of Selbach-Oster Bernkasteler Riesling, ’08 (14). With dinner, I had a glass of Navarro Gewertsramiener ’08 (12). With her dinner, Lyd enjoyed a glass of Twomey Cellars Merlot ’05 (22). Ryan brought Nico a bowl of goldfish. Ryan presented us with an amuse bouche of the Maine Lobster Bisque. Lyd, Kate and I all ordered the Crispy Asian Rock shrimp salad . Sal’s total dinner included the Tempura Bonzi Roll, the California Roll and the Sashimi. Kate and I both had the Pan-roasted Pacific Monchong. Lyd’s entrée was her favorite, the oak-fired filet of beef. For dessert, Lyd and Nico had the Valrhona Chocolate Cake. I ordered the Mascarpone and Meyer Lemon Cheesecake. Kate had coffee and Lyd and I each had a glass of the Klein Constantia Vin de Constance. Nico was great all through dinner and had a lot of fun with his glass of water and a straw.
