At 0647, it’s 69 in Central Park in New York City. We left the hotel a little before 0800 headed for Norma’s in Le Parker Meridien Hotel. After breakfast, we split up. Jerry, Linda, Becky and Brian headed for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Lyd and I walked up Broadway to Columbus Circle where we caught a subway up to 81st street and the American Museum of Natural History. After paying the Seniors’ ticket price (17) we went up to the 2nd floor. We enjoyed the large dioramas of North American Mammals and walked through the Biodiversity Hall. Here, many of the specimens are made of blown glass. We then walked into the Hall of Ocean Life where Lyd just loved every exhibit. There were lots of school groups with lots of little children. We then enjoyed the hall of Planet Earth. There are loads of volunteer docents, in their red vests, explaining everything. The walking was starting to get to us, so we decided to make an early try for lunch. Outside the museum, we caught an M10 bus southbound on Central Park West. We got off at 66th street and walked into Central Park, passed ball fields with softball games in progress. Though we were early, Tavern on The Green seated us promptly in a glassed-in area which gave the impression of being outside. The thought of facing the subway was too much for us, so, at our request, the doorman trotted over to Central Park West and secured a cab (20) for our return to the Grand Hyatt. The driver, a pleasant Bulgarian, talked food, particularly his native potato salad, all the way back. Though we had planned to have dinner on our own while the family went to the meet-and-greet reception, we settled for splitting a bottle of red wine and early to bed.
