Background
At 0610, it's 47 in NYC. Lyd got up just after 8 and we went down to "M Café" in the lobby and had a pair of ham and cheese croissants. At 1030, we left the hotel room and the doorman summoned a cab that took us down the FDR to the ship. There, we were met by Captain Bebee, with whom we have previously sailed. We settled in to Cabin 301 and then attended the safety briefing. Over half the passengers have sailed with ACL on previous trips, one couple 15 times. Lunch was a Roasted Sweet potato Bisque followed by an excellent poached Atlantic Seafood Salad, and Blackberry Buttermilk cake for me. At 2pm, 37 of us assembled for a bus tour of NYC. Our first stop was the new World Trade Center. We visited the two reflecting pools, a very somber sight. We returned to the bus and started up the Westside Highway, destination: Central Park. The traffic was heavy, even for a Saturday, so our tour guide opted to transfer over to the eastside and a return to the boat. We spent an hour trying to negotiate the traffic on 2nd Avenue; total gridlock near the Midtown Tunnel. Cocktails were served on the 4th deck as we departed Pier 36. The captain circled the Statue of Liberty before turning north up the Hudson and we went down to dinner. We started with Maple-brown sugar marinated scallops with red onion marmalade & shoepeg corn risotto. Lew moved on to Seared Mignonette of Salmon Oscar with jumbo lump crab, sweet potato pilaf, asparagus and wild onion béarnaise. I had braised rack of lamb with mashed potatoes, braised red cabbage, Apple Gremolata and Merlot Apple Sauce. Though she skipped dessert, I had Ginger Berry Cobbler with Anglaise. At 2000, we docked in Yonkers, NY. Though there was a tour briefing after dinner, it found us in bed at 2025 with the heat off and the window open and 57.
