California Grill
|≤ <<< Sunday, June 18, 2017 >>> ≥|
Kate and Sal surprised us with a change in plans. Instead of them going to the California Grill this evening, they decided that Kate will take me for Father's Day. Although their reservation was for 1950, we put ourselves at the 2nd floor podium at 1930 and were quickly assigned to the first two seats at the sushi counter, my favorite. A note on the reservation from Leo apologized for having to leave early. Emma took over with excellent hospitality, starting us off with a nice amuse bouche. This was followed by a pair of huge chocolate covered strawberries from Yvonne, from the bakery downstairs. Kate started with the Spring Beet Salad (15) of a trio of beets, buratta cheese, citrus honeyed cranberries, hazelnut and sherry vinaigrette. I started with the Tuna Three Way (26) of Kaku-zukuri, Miso, Toasted Hazelnut, Shishito, Tataki, Aji Amarillo, Onion-oy vinaigrette, & tuna roll. We had trouble deciding on a next course, so we asked Sushi Chef Emma for advice. She suggested half lobster roll (Maine Lobster, avocado, crispy noodles, fireball and Yuzu truffle sauce) and half spicy kazan (Crab, Shrimp, scallops, tuna and fireball sauce) (26). We both agreed and Sushi Chef Emma is on the Pixie Dust List. To finish the meal, we thought, I ordered a glass of Fonseca Port (13) for Kate and a glass of Royal Tokaji (17) for myself. Nikk's 2-piece taste of sushi arrived during the fireworks to end the evening.
