We'll be in Savannah all day. We've signed up for the Historic Savannah Trolley Tour in the morning and the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum Tour in the afternoon.
At 0649, it’s 53 in Savannah. By breakfast, the temperature had dropped to 50 and it was raining; neither being good conditions for a tram tour of Savannah, so we stayed aboard for the morning and paid the deposit for the July trip on the Ohio River. On the way to lunch, Bobbi was serving a rum punch on the first deck. At lunch, we both started with the Potato Leek Soup which was excellent. Lew moved on to the Galley Steak Sandwich with pickled onions, roasted potato salad, marinated tomatoes and bleu cheese mayonnaise while I enjoyed the Barbecue Chicken Salad including corn, red onion, bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn bread croutons and barbecue vinaigrette. The rain continued, and the tour of the Eighth Airforce Museum lost its appeal, so we skipped that as well. Just before cocktails, the Captain announced a change in our itinerary. The weather, wind in particular, will prevent our docking in Hilton Head, so our departure time from Savannah has changed from 0130 to 0630 and we’ll be heading to Beaufort, SC, instead. The captain hosted cocktails which were, as usual, very entertaining. We returned, at dinner, to our table in the port-aft corner of the dining room where we were joined, again, by John and Dottie Hanson from Mattapoisett, MA, and by Marty and Kathy Brown, from Lee, MA. Lew and I both started with the Charleston Shrimp Stew which was excellent. Lew moved on to the Pecan Crusted Redfish with rice pilaf, sautéed broccoli, and an apple cider cream sauce. I selected a very fine sauerbraten style braised pork shank with mashed potatoes, braised cabbage in in a gingersnap pan gravy. I finished with a slice of blueberry pie. Lew went back to the Chesapeake Lounge and enjoyed the music of David Duckworth, which was audible through our cabin door where I worked on the website. At 2134, with 48 degrees and rain, we went to bed.
