At 1030, we were to have boarded the American Constellation, docked near the Seabord Coastline Building, in Cabin 301, but ACL called a few days ago to report the docks in Fernandina have been repaired, so we'll be transported there to board. We consider this to be our 6th cruise, though ACL numbers it #7 following the debacle in April. Anyway, we're glad to be aboard, though I have already toured the ship while in the shipyard. We expect to sail by 1730, arriving in Brunswick, GA at 2230.
At 0706, it’s 60 in Jacksonville. We went down to breakfast in the hotel and it was clear that the majority of the diners were “boat people.” By 0930, we were packed and down in the lobby. There, we were met by ACL people who checked our ID and loaded us, and our bags aboard the bus for the drive to Fernandina. The tour guide elected to go through Yulee where FL200 was under expansion construction. We arrived in Fernandina and were transported, via a city water taxi, in groups of about 25, out to the American Constellation, anchored in the harbor. At 1215, we had a safety briefing and, at 1230 went down for lunch. We both had the spinach salad and the seafood salad before returning to the room for naps. We attended the shore excursion meeting and picked the tours we will enjoy the remainder of the cruise. We left Fernandina Harbor at 1700, headed up the coast toward Brunswick, Georgia. Cocktails started at 1730 and we went down to dinner at 1830. We both had the wedge salad with tomato, bleu cheese, cucumber and candied bacon. Lew followed with the Bleu cheese-herb crusted mignonette of beef with jumbo lump crab bread pudding, asparagus and brown butter Bearnaise and I picked the salmon marsala with balsamic wild rice pilaf, sliced mushrooms, asparagus and marsala sauce. Lew skipped dessert and I tried a slice of the chocolate cheesecake. We returned to the room and the gentle rolling of the boat in the Atlantic, headed north off the coast of Cumberland Island. At 2103, it’s 64. At 2240, we docked in Brunswick.
